Strange PowerPoint Not Responding Issue

Hello,

I'm having a strange issue with PowerPoint, or any office doucment for that matter.

Every 2nd PowerPoint will result in PowerPoint going "Not responding". 3rd, 4th, 5th documents open fine. When you close PowerPoint and get back to the 2nd Document it will go "Not Responding".

PowerPoint will hang for around 1-2mins and then work as normal. I've also noticed this behavior when saving.

Both issues occur for mutiple users using the same machine, (no other machines are affected), and to a network share.

PPTs stored locally on C:\ work fine.

Office has been repaired, and now I cannot thing of what else I can try.

Has anyone seen anything like this or know what I could do to try and resolve the issues?

Thanks!

Outlook 2019 Search Fix

We had an issue where people searching in Outlook 2019 would get a "Something went wrong and your search couldn't be completed. It looks like there's a problem with your network connection." error. All network tests through Outlook succeeded, all updates installed, we recreated Outlook profiles, disabled cached Exchange mode, and reinstalled Office. Nothing worked. I came across a TechNet thread that suggested a registry fix, and that worked great.

Value name: DisableServerAssistedSearch
Value type: REG_DWORD

Hopefully that'll help someone in the future!

Cannot access emails in nested folders under inbox OWA

I work for an MSP

A single user at one of our clients is having an issue where when she logs into OWA she cannot access the emails from the nested folders under her inbox.

She can access the emails in her inbox, and she can see that there are emails in her nested folders but she is not able to view them. Clicking on them does nothing, not even right click works.

This is using Chrome, the issue is not replicated in IE.

I also was not able to replicate the issue on my computer. However, this happens on both her laptop and her desktop, so multiple computers are affected.

I tried clearing the cache (back to all time), I tried adding the site to the popup exceptions. No change.

It sounds like its a chrome issue but I dont know where to look past what Ive already done.

On premise exchange 2010, so OWA is the old yellow version.

Office 2010 applications crash when opening/saving files

Hi,

As of around a week ago (some users report around 26th March) we have started having many issues with Office 2010 applications hanging/freezing whenever a user clicks 'open' or 'save as'. So essentially whenever it is trying to launch its mini file-selector window.

This is an issue on all the office applications (is the same on PowerPoint, Word, Excel etc). If I log into a different account on the same computer it works with no problem however.

So far the only fix I know works is uninstalling 2010 and putting on 2016. I am guessing some sort of Windows 10 update has caused this issue but don't know any more than that...

I have tried all the standard troubleshooting procedures Microsoft suggests with no success (including launching the Office applications in safe mode).

Any advice would be appreciated, as having to remove 2010 and put...

Hi Guys,

I know how to change the default Save location for Office in a GPO what I am having difficult doing is setting it to a folder in each users local profile.

I enter %USERPROFILE%\Documents\working Files but Word doesn't like it. I want to be able to do this in a GPO.

Any ideas on how I can get %userprofile% to work?

Outlook adds data files but not the email account, why?

I'll try to explain this briefly. My Outlook 2016 client is setup, fresh install. I am able to add (3) accounts without fail. I attempt to add a Gmail account and it fails. It adds the Data File, and the email account will show in the folder list, but no email account. Now I can't delete the Data Files, and the address is in the folder list three times. UGH!

Outlook to block gsync.dll ???

Since enduring some workstation problems in the last 2 weeks, i've been in and out of event viewer a lot lately, i happened to notice this today when clearing some logs. This was in the application log. If MS decides to block google's gsuite app sync on me that's going to be a headache. Anyone know anything about this? Or does it just mean that google has to register it?

Security warning loading gsync.dll. This MAPI provider DLL might be harmful to your system. You should only load DLLs from trusted providers that have been registered in MapiSvc.Inf. This provider DLL will be blocked in a future Outlook client update and its functionality will no longer be available. For more information about registering provider DLLs, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2009861&clcid=0x409.

All of our 2016 documents are opening read-only after upgrade.

Have read all the other threads and they were closed for some reason.  We are having this issue and no trust center settings appear to do anything.  All documents open read only and you have to hit the "Edit Workbook"  button.  This has caused the meltdown of many.  That extra button click is going to drive these people insane and I fear for my well being.  Anyone have this issue?

Teams installed with C2R

All,

It looks like Teams has now been added to the Office 365 C2R installer.

According to MS documentation adding  to the install config file should prevent Teams from being installed. This doesn't seem to be working.

Has anyone got this working?

Email issue\Skype

Recently the company I work for decided to stop using Skype for Business and move in another direction. The company has an on-premise exchange server (2016) and had an on-premise Skype for Business server, 2 different servers. I was tasked to decommission the Skype for Business, which I finally found the instructions to do, now I have decommissioned the server and it has been deleted. Now we are having issues with email not syncing with our Mac users. Our Mac users get an error message " We're having trouble getting new mail items. If you are signed in with account <*** Private Message is removed for privacy ***> from Skype of Business (Lync) or from Windows or Mac Outlook clients on other devices, try signing out of them."

Each users has signed out of Skype on all of their devices but they still get this message. The only way the users can get new emails is to send/receive for...

Excel opens a file then hides it

We have a strange problem with a Microsoft XLSX file. To begin, the system in question is a brand new Lenovo laptop. We prepped the laptop for deployment, and everything seems to work fine, except for one Excel file. When we attempt to open this file, the spreadsheet opens, but it then disappears leaving only the outside edge (a thin black line) where the program used to be. If I right click on Excel in the Start Bar, and click close it asks me if I want to save the file. So it's opening the file, and trying to make changes to it just by opening it.

I've tried the suggestions in the following link: https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/what-if-excel-shows-blank-instead-of-opening-a-document/

I've repaired Office doing both a quick and full repair. I've removed 2013 and installed 365 and it is still doing it. I've opened Excel in...

Office 365 Premium activation unable to connect

Hi guys and gals,

Having an issue with just one computer whereby it cannot activate the office 365 product.

Office 365 Premium was installed on a Windows 7 computer last week. Activated fine and the product was assigned to the user.

However, this week the office products are saying unlicensed and it wants to activate.

When trying to activate, it says:

We are unable to connect right now, please try again later.

I have checked the traffic monitor on the Sophos firewall, I can see no dropped packets from the computer in question when pressing the sign in button...

Office was able to check and install latest updates.

I have also re-installed the Office premium apps again.

Any ideas?

HistoryType field showing up in Outlook prints

I have a user that suddenly has a new field in their Outlook Printouts. The field appears under the Subject line and is titled "HistoryType". I've never heard of this field before an account find anything about it on the web. User is on Outlook 2016 (non-365). How do I get rid of this?

"Outlook is closing"

My users are complaining that when they close Outlook, it doesn't fully close. The icon in the system tray goes grey, with the tool-tip "Outlook is closing". The only way to close the outlook.exe process is to end task it. This is happening on Outlook 2016 click to run and standalone versions.

I have tried some troubleshooting... opening Outlook in Safe mode, and closing.

The issue only appeared in the last few weeks, so I suspect it's a recent MS update causing it. I've tried researching "outlook is closing" on good old Google but the only suggestions are to end task using task manager and to start Outlook in safe mode.

Excel 64 Bit and Legacy VBA - Do I need a complete Re-Write of the Legacy Code?

$

I had to rebuild my PC at work a few weeks ago and I am on Office 365 E3 and I installed office from the Office 365 portal.

When I went to edit some code in one of our many VBA projects, I got this message:

I've always understood that I'd run into some VBA/Macro issued between 32 and 64 bit office.

My question is do I need to just update the statements as stated in the error message or so I need to plan on complete re-writes of the VBA code in the projects?

Here is where the code fails.

Normal.dotm issues

$

So I have an issue with templates (I am having this in 2010,13,16 and 365). Basically the default template folder is now a shared folder where the users have read only permission (in the old template folder users just saved what ever they wanted in there and the boss didn't want that to happen this time round so that is the reasoning behind read only). Unfortunately because of this when users try to close word or excel for example, it keeps promting them to save the normal.dotm in a different location as they only have read privelages on the shared template folder. Is there a way to stop the prompt from coming up without me having to go to every users computer and saving it somewhere else?
